And What Alice Found There

Misty Mountains

Last week I took a walk up to Easedale Tarn starting from Grasmere. It's a walk I had never done before and I didn't even know the path was there! I have walked in this area before when completing two of my Wainwrights - Helm Crag and Gibson Knott, and it's a really pretty place to be with stunning views!

The walk only took us a few hours, including a picnic at the tarn, and the paths were all fairly easy to walk on. Making our way up we could see there was quite a bit of cloud covering the mountain summits around us but we had our fingers crossed that it would be clear up at the tarn!

The walk took us alongside a stream with a couple of waterfalls which were very loud but as soon as you'd go over the next hill it would be silent again - like magic! We also saw some snow-topped summits peeking through the clouds and we felt the chill as we climbed further and further up. Looking back down the valley gave us some beautiful views over Grasmere!

Eventually we made it to the tarn! It was so lovely and peaceful with only a couple of fellow walkers taking in the scenery. Unfortunately the clouds hadn't cleared, but instead they hung over us like a thick white ceiling - it was very odd! The water on the tarn was incredibly still which gave us some amazing reflections of the mountains and the clouds hanging above them.

After our picnic we had a quick walk to the opposite side of the tarn to take photos of each others reflections, and then we headed back down the way we walked up. It was a really nice walk that didn't take too long, had great views, and is easy to get to! On the way back to the car we also stopped off for a lovely hot chocolate in Grasmere village - the perfect way to end a chilly winter walk! I highly recommend a  visit to Easedale Tarn and would love to go back myself, hopefully on a clearer day!
