And What Alice Found There
I am now one step closer to finally being finished with my degree, with the opening of our exhibition taking place over the weekend. After months of hard work, late nights, test printing and planning, the time finally came last week for us to begin hanging our graduate show. From Monday to Friday myself and my fellow students all split down into groups to help hang the work. It was my first time helping with this aspect of an exhibition and it really opened my eyes to all the hard work that goes behind these sort of events! It was all hands on deck to get the work up in time and luckily we all pulled together to help each other out and managed to get everything ready by Friday morning...
When Friday evening arrived, we all got dressed up and headed down to the venue for 6pm where we had a small introduction from our tutors followed by an awards ceremony. There were about 5 or 6 awards given out in total for a number of different things, and I was pleasantly surprised when my name was read out for one of them! I was given the Dean's award for Creative Practice - I felt so pleased with myself and very shocked! It feels like such an honour to have been chosen for the award out of everyone in my year, especially with the standard of work everyone has been producing! At 6.30 the show opened to the public and we were joined by family and friends to celebrate all our hard work at last. With the wine flowing nicely and everyone in good spirits, the night ran really smoothly. The work looked great up on the walls and we also had 2 long tables set up for photo books, portfolios and business cards.
The night was a great success, with someone buying my print and a few people interested in buying copies of the book too! In my eyes, things couldn't have gone better! We ended the night at about 9pm by thanking our tutors and giving out gifts to all those that helped make our projects a success!
The exhibition will remain open to the public until Thursday 23rd June, so please do come and have a look if you are in the area! We are located in the Student Central Building on the University of Huddersfield main campus, open from 10-3 on weekends and 10-5 on weekdays.
All that is left to do now before my time at University is over is to collect my results next week then finally graduate on 13th July! Watch this space for more about my results and graduation...
