And What Alice Found There
To me, Grasmere is the heart of the Lake District and not just because of its geographical location. It's your typical lakeland village bringing together all the elements of the National Park in one place - a friendly local community, homemade delicacies, impressive mountains peaks, quiet country roads, and of course the lake that shares the name Grasmere. Whenever I visit this beautiful corner of the Earth I feel really lucky to live so close by and it's somewhere that I'd love to spend more time. I’ve always been partial to a little dip in the lake when the weather’s nice but with such a good summer happening at the moment, this year has seen me do my most wild swims to date. Not just a way to cool down in the heat (although it’s perfect for that) wild swimming is exciting, exhilarating and adventurous – all the things I love! Sometimes there really is nothing better than floating on your back in a secret little pool, basking in the sun and enjoying the silence all around. Here you’ll find my favourite places (that I’ve discovered so far) to go for a dip in Cumbria – from secret river pools to lakeside beaches there’s something to suit all tastes!
The Lake District has well and truly been spoilt so far this summer with some of the best weather I’ve seen in years! It’s the ideal time to get out hiking, camping and swimming and make the most of being outdoors. However, these activities aren’t everyone’s cup of tea and sometimes it’s just too hot to do anything strenuous! So if a pleasant stroll is more your kind of thing or you need to give your legs a break from the mountains then Sizergh Castle could be the answer you’re looking for. This fantastic stately home is nestled among gorgeous Alice-in-Wonderland-style gardens with numerous hidden gems to discover...
